The best-known walking trail is the Kokoda Trail, but there are literally hundreds of other options because the entire country is criss-crossed by tracks. The most interesting choices are arguably Lake Kopiago to Oksapmin, Mt Wilhelm to Madang and Wedau to Alotau. A couple hundred people canoe down the
Sepik each year, but you have to be fit, independent and well-equipped
to tackle it. Foreign tour operators offer fabulous rafting down
PNG's turbulent mountain rivers, but there are also some regular

to several popular trekking spots, the infamous Kokoda Trail - a favorite
with war historians, and the Variarata National Park - a spectacular
mountain region, reknown for its striking scenery and panoramic views of
Port Moresby and the coastline. In the East New
Britain province, Mt Tavurvur, an active volcano, is a
memoriable scene for hikers as you walk through hot springs and the
view of dust being thrown out of the volcano. Mr Whilhelm is also a
favorite climb for visiting bush walkers near Kundiawa, and the Shaggy
